Whittled Santas
Collectors love Whittled Santas. They describe these carved Santas as “elegant” , “classy”, “beautifully carved and painted” and “exquisite”. The detail and care given to the creation of each Whittled Santa carving contrasts with the simplicity of the materials used makes each one a true collectible of heirloom quality.
Each Whittled Santa is whittled from an 8 to 11 inch piece of 2×2 clear Canadian white pine using simple carving knives. The Santa carvings are lightly sanded and sealed then lovingly painted, lightly antiqued and polished to a soft warm patina, leaving a rich slightly aged appearance.
Carver Sandy Hellard was inspired after to seeing a hand carved Santa in an antique store in New England 30 years ago. “I saw the Santa – an old world belsnickle style – and fell in love with the simplicity and charm of the carving. I really did feel that the Santa was a bright light of good and I knew I wanted to make my own.”
